G-Dragon’s Surprise Confession: “‘HOME SWEET HOME’ Was Originally a BIGBANG Song”
On November 27, G-Dragon uploaded a video titled “G-DRAGON – ‘HOME SWEET HOME (feat. TAEYANG & DAESUNG)’ Behind the Scenes EP.01” on his official YouTube channel.
In the video, G-Dragon is seen immersed in the creative process for the song and delves into its origins.
Daesung first expressed his concerns, saying, “So the issue is ‘HOME SWEET HOME’, right? But since the song hasn’t been released, I don’t like the idea of releasing it then. If us (Taeyang & Daesung) going on stage will help you in any way, I think the whole nuance of ‘Oh, they are here to support him’ is fine. But releasing a song that nobody knows because it hasn’t even been released I don’t think that it is a good idea.”
In response, G-Dragon explained, “So regarding the song, I mean it’s a song that I’ve been keeping for the longest on purpose and it was originally a BIGBANG song. In a way, it’s only natural to everyone for it to be good. So there’s no reason to not do it.”
Taeyang added, “The reason why I conveyed my opinion from Jiyong’s perspective and said, ‘I think it’s right for you to do it this way’ is because we also need to show something we’ve actually prepared to enhance the synergy effect. And it only makes sense that way.”
G-Dragon agreed, “Going on stage itself is not that difficult. You guys can come up lightly as if you’re there for support. And it will definitely shine through regardless of what we do.”
A staff member noted, “Having the three of you on this new song, just that itself, will shock the public. They’ll love it and they’ll definitely look forward to it.”
Taeyang responded, “I honestly want to do ‘HOME SWEET HOME’, I mean don’t get me wrong. I want to do it but hearing about the whole release thing, I just don’t think that’s right. That’s the biggest concern for me. I really want to perform the new song charismatically on stage.”
Following this exchange, the BIGBANG members poured their efforts into rehearsals to deliver a stellar performance. Toward the end of the video, a teaser for their MAMA stage was shown, raising fans’ expectations.
“HOME SWEET HOME” was first performed on Novmeber 23 during a concert at Osaka’s Kyocera Dome in Japan. G-Dragon opened the stage, joined sequentially by Taeyang and Daesung, demonstrating flawless teamwork. Their performance received an explosive reaction, becoming one of the most talked-about moments at the 2024 MAMA Awards.
The song currently tops Melon’s real-time charts and continues to gain immense popularity. While it is technically a solo track by G-Dragon, it’s the first song collaboratively worked on by the three members, fueling excitement among fans. Many view it as a signal of new possibilities for BIGBANG as a trio.
